Happy Birthday to two artists who were influential in the arts in 18th century Britain. Mary Moser was born on October 27th and Angelica Kauffman was born on October 30th.
Both artists were the only women accepted as founding members of London's Royal Academy in 1768. A position that wouldn't be held by another women until 1936.
Both artists were represented as paintings on the wall in the image above. It is said because women were not allowed to study from the nude male figure and that was the subject of the painting. The artists do appear in this painting below. The two women can be found standing behind the Academy's president.
