While there are many cookbooks available from the kitchens of artists, there are few that are written and illustrated by the artists themselves. Here are two that serve as art books as well as cookbooks.
Rereleased this year was Salvador Dali's Les Diners de Gala.
The recipes can actually be made, however the real treasure here is seeing Dali's surrealism come through in the illustrations, recipes, AND the writing.
"I only like to eat what has a clear and intelligible form. If I hate that detestable degrading vegetable called spinach it is because it is shapeless, like Liberty."
Andy Warhol also contributed to a cookbook in 1959, Wild Raspberries. The recipes are playful takes on popular 1950's dishes. I love the handwritten text.
