Emily Carr was born on December 13th. She is best known for her paintings of the  First Nations villages in British Columbia and the nature of the Pacific Northwest.

I especially love the watercolors pictured above (source). I'm a fan of how she handles line. Both through contour outlines and in her paint application; lines are present and create energy in the work.

The Vancouver Art Gallery has a large collection of her work and lots of information about the artist available on their website.

"I think that one's art is a growth inside one. I do not think one can explain growth. It is silent and subtle. One does not keep digging up a plant to see how it grows."
