Grandma Moses was born on September 7th. Grandma Moses is well known as a primitive/naïve artist because she had no formal training. Her paintings are dreamy, idealistic memories of a bygone time. I enjoy the flat appearance of her paintings, as if she had a memory of a time and place and then worked to get all of those elements into the painting.

She lived a hard life outliving her husband and several of her children. She started painting at the age of 70 after arthritis limited her other activities. She continued painting until her death at 101. A true hero in the fight against ageism!
