In collaboration with the Tate Britain, curator Nicolas Bourriaud introduced the art movement Altermodernism.
His description in the video below is quick and informative. In it, he points out that Modernism and Postmodernism were mostly Western based and established on a linear timeline. He makes the argument that the next phase of art needs to be global. He sees todays culture as a maze with input and output that transcends time, space and history.
The Tate released a manifesto for the movement and a cartoon about it as well. Below are a few of the panels, more can be found in the link above. They help explain the layered, shared, and contextual nature of altermodernism.
