I'm super impressed by the work of John Bankston. He creates exhibitions that are really huge comic books. Galleries filled with sequential larger works that tell a story of his own creation.
I love how Bankston has taken his audience into consideration. In the video linked above he explains that humor and the coloring book aesthetic is used to make the work accessible. He also leaves blank spaces and uncolored portions in the paintings so that that the viewer and fill those in with their own imaginations.
I find it refreshing to see work that considers the viewer, the physical presence of the work, and humor all while staying true to their concepts. Bankston work clearly communicates challenging topics in an accessible way.
