Portrait Work

Portrait Work

Below are recent artworks created as part of a 30 day challenge.

I use the sktchy app, on which artists share inspiration photos, then create artwork based on their and other peoples photos. It's a great community that provides a lot of inspiration and feedback. I couldn't resist jumping in on their 30 challenge where the artists work with daily themes that sktchy provides.

Day 20: Improvement

The piece above is 18" x 24" colored pencil. It was really fun to work with limited colors and really push for some strong color saturation. She looks like an intense Amelie to me, ha ha ha.

Day 18: Supplies

A chalkboard drawing for the above challenge. When posted in the app I entered the below statement with the piece. "I find supplies with history, meaning or customization the most inspiring. I acquired the chalkboard from the attic of a 95 year old Community Art Center I was Executive Director of. I'm inspired by the loving scars it bears from decades of art classes. Ultimately, I think a good artist can shine through the roughest and simplest of materials."

The piece above was for Day 17: Collaboration. I was psyched it got picked even though it wasn't my favorite. It's a large 18" x 24" graphite piece I put together quickly between other responsibilities. It was fun working with the weird pose and doing a full body piece.
