Laura Wheeler Waring was born on May 16th and is best known for her paintings depicting the Harlem Renaissance.
She is best known for her portraits and as an art education advocate. Spending a significant portion of her career teaching at Cheyney University in Philadelphia. Her works are in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery.
