Work That's Left Behind

Work That's Left Behind

As an artist you can't help but consider what you leave behind.

I started this post researching one artist but quickly switched gears after seeing these curious pieces by Adelhyd van Bender, an artist whose scope of work wasn't discovered until after they passed away.

Adelhyd van Bender spent a brief period of time in art school and had experience as an electrician before focusing entirely on art-making. In an obsessive fashion Adelhyd filled hundreds of 3 ring binders with artwork that consisted of collaged, photocopied, and then redrawn imagery that resembles circuitry maps, constellations, formulas, mandalas or nuclear symbols. Adelhyd passed away in 2014 when no heirs were found the apartment (below) was entered revealing the mass of work created by the artist.

Adelhyd left behind a unique story and trail of artwork that sparks conversation around record keeping, mapping, and systems. The estate of artwork is represented by the Delmes and Zander gallery
