Happy Birthday: Judy Chicago

Judy Chicago was born on July 20th. She is best known for being on the forefront of feminist art. She often mixed traditionally female art mediums like needlework with contrasting mediums like metal work.

Her most famous work "Dinner Party" is part of the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Museum. The "Dinner Party" comprises a massive ceremonial banquet, arranged on a triangular table with a total of thirty-nice place settings, each commemorating an important woman in history. -Brooklyn Museum

She has a thorough website here that shows her many installation pieces and her most current works. Above is a video about Judy Chicago and below is one of her books.

"I believe in art that is connected to real human feeling, that extends itself beyond the art world to embrace all people who are striving for alternatives in an increasingly dehumanized world. I am trying to make art that relates to the deepest and most mythic concerns of human kind and I believe that, at this moment of history, feminism is humanism." -Judy Chicago
