A New Art Direction
This week I tried something new with my drawings and I'm digging it!
I really want to push myself conceptually. I'm in search of how to make art that I enjoy making, enjoy looking at and enjoy thinking about. This week I think I got there or at least really close!
After dropping the kids off at school I took a reference photo every 10 steps on my way back home. Once I got home I drew items from the photos in the order I experienced them. The result was a long 6" x 45" drawing that is sort of film/ scroll/ totem like. The objects bleed together as they do when you quickly glance from one to the next.
It's a portrait of an experience.
I rendered the items simply because I plan on translating this into a long piece of fiber art. The idea behind this piece and the fact that the fleeting moment of walking past a place is rendered through the detailed process of knitting supports the work.
I made a knitting chart and cast it on. The piece may be too long but I'm going to play with it to find the right balance.
