Mesmerized by Light

I recently learned of the artist Li Shurui and her large paintings of light.

Using her phone camera, Li photographed a light up sign in a club. The image was so captivating she reproduced it with airbrush onto canvas. In essence, she's painting light. By blurring sections she's encouraging the viewer to remember and feel what the experience of viewing light is. This is all very interesting to me with my own work. Experimenting with digital drawing, there's a new element at play in my work. Instead of placing a light above the work so I can see what I'm drawing the light now comes from behind the work on the screen. As subtle as that sounds it does change how I'm thinking and approaching my work.
