Diving Into Surface Design

A while back I started sewing my own dresses. Since then I've been paying attention to surface design and couldn't help giving it a try myself.

My first effort were these divers. I wanted to try a pattern with an irregular repeat. I think it might be a bit bold for a dress so it might be used as a skirt or one follower of the blog suggested a shirt. Sort of an off-beat take on the Hawaiian shirt.

I then wanted to create a softer and more subtle pattern for use on a dress. Of course, I love hands so I drew hands creating a plaid pattern.

I wanted to have at least one more design before I tried having them printed on fabric. I was snuggling my studio pup Rocket and thought it'd be awesome to sew him some spring/summer dog t-shirts. The design below was the result. I wanted the design to be dog related but not in a cliche way. Playing fetch was where I chose to go with it.

The three designs are at the printers for samples to be made. I can't wait to sew up some clothes using my own designs!!!
