Happy Birthday: Toots Zynsky
Toots Zynsky is a contemporary glass artist who was born on March 25th.
I was already familiar with her work and style because she was one of the artists we represented at one of the galleries I worked at early in my career. I didn’t, however, realize she created this style of glasswork. It’s called the filet-de-verre technique and involves creating vessels from fused fine glass threads. I also hadn’t kept up with her progress so I was unfamiliar with her style evolution into more scattered textures like she used in the piece below. I really like this style it feels very organic like moss or roots.
“It’s actually very easy to translate my work to painting and back and forth…because my work is all made up of thousands and thousands of lines of glass threads.” ~ Toots Zynsky
